Martin Luther King Jr portraits!
First I had the children take turns painting on a large mural sheet with many different shades of brown.
Once it was dry each child took a turn to stencil and cut the head for their portrait. Then glued on the eyes, nose, mouth, mustache and hair. Finally they glued it on to a separate piece of paper and wrote MLK's name.
We followed up this activity by having each child think of their own dream and illustrate a picture of it on a cloud. We also made a wreath of all the children's hand prints in a variety of multicultural colors and hung it up with a picture of MLK.
