Tomorrow...

The leprechaun has been very busy preparing for tomorrow's fun!

Don't forget your leprechaun traps! : )

Leprechaun Dust!

We made Leprechaun Dust!

Recipe:
3 cups baking soda
1/2 cup hair conditioner
1 packet of green kool-aid
plus a healthy dose of green glitter
(Similiar to the consistency of moon sand)

Such a fun sensory experience and it smells fabulous!

After the children explored this interesting mixture one of the children asked if we could add water to it. I decided to give all the children a chance to try dripping not only water onto the mixture but vinegar as well.

The children really enjoyed this experiment and the result of the reactions!

Although this is a science and sensory activity it also aids in language development. When children hear and use words to describe the many sensations and actions that come with sensory play, their vocabularies grow. When you ask children what they think is happening during a science lesson you are challenging them to think and talk in a more complex way.

St. Patrick's Day!

St. Patrick's Day fun!!!

The children and their families are given a very fun homework assignment for the week.

To invent and create a Leprechaun trap!

A Leprechaun is an Irish "elf". Leprechauns are small in size, and some say they look like a tiny, old man in a top hat and red beard. They are tricky fellows and like to play pranks on unsuspecting people.
Legend says that Leprechauns are shoemakers (also called cobblers). Curiously enough, they only make one of each type of shoe. You can tell a Leprechaun is near if you hear the tapping of their hammers.

Each Leprechaun also has a pot of gold! Some say they bury it in secret places only Leprechauns can reach; others say they hide it at the end of the rainbow. One thing is for sure though, if you catch a Leprechaun he will lead you to his pot of gold and give it to you as a bribe to let him go.

Remember, Leprechauns are tricky fellows, so you must be creative and tricky when building a Leprechaun trap! Here are a few more tips and suggestions to help you get started:

  • Rainbows are good to use on or around your trap.
  • Color your trap green and decorate it with green items.
  • Leprechauns are also attracted to four leaf clovers.
  • Leprechauns like Lucky Charms cereal, coins and gold.
  • Make sure your trap is disguised well.
  • No two traps should be alike or the Leprechaun will get suspicious and leave.
Here are our Leprechaun Traps!!!

While the children were outside on the playground a Leprechaun caused a little chaos in our classroom!
He turned over chairs, left his footprints on our floor and table! He even sprinkled green glitter and shamrocks all over the place!

We found that he left us a note and some of his special Leprechaun gold!!!

Lucky Charms Graphing!

Rubber / sponge painted shamrocks!

We are focusing on our weather unit during St. Paddy's Day so our rainbow collages give some color to our classroom door!

Shamrock Crowns!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!
