Pendulum Paintings.

Pendulum drip painting with eggs!

We began this lesson by reading the book, Little blue and little yellow by Leo Lionni. It is such a cute story about two little dots who are best friends and one day after they hug they both turn green! This story inspired us to use the colors blue and yellow to create our own pendulum paintings.

First we discussed what a pendulum is. A pendulum is made from hanging an object from something else. When you pull a pendulum to one side and let it go, it swings back and forth. Galilelo was the first to really study pendulums and he discovered that their regularity could be used for keeping time which led to the first clocks. We discussed how we would have more control over ours as we were the ones moving the egg on the string back and forth.

I then filled the plastic eggs with blue and yellow liquid water color paint and attached a string to each of the eggs. The plastic eggs that I picked up already had two small holes in each end but if not it shouldn't be too hard to add them.

The children then took turns to swing their paint filled eggs back and forth across the paper. Some held the string closer to the paper others further away.
They were having so much fun and each remarked joyfully when the two colors combined to make green dots as well!

We will be revisiting pendulum painting outside, on a larger scale when the weather warms up a bit more!

Spring egg color word game!

Tuesday 2 egg freebie!

Egg crate color word writing game!

The children are invited to take turns throwing a pom pom into the egg crate! Whichever color the pom pom lands in that is the color word they write. I keep my color word print out in a clear sleeve and the students write it with a dry erase marker to cut down on all the paper.

Spring egg file folder game!

Students must match the first letter (by sounding it out) to the color for which it corresponds for some phonemic fun. The color words are included for students to match as well.

Egg Carton Alphabet Soup!

Another fabulous use for egg cartons!

Alphabet Soup!!!

The egg carton has the capital letters while the cut out pieces have the lower case letters.

Children simply match the lower case letters to the capitals until all of the letters are complete then the teacher can check their work.

Free and easy to make! : )

Eggs!

Eggs!!!
The cutest book about eggs ever!
Seven Eggs by Meredith Hooper

It has a baby animal who hatches for each day of the week until you reach Easter Sunday and then chocolate eggs hatch out for each of the baby animals! So super cute!

Math egg crate game!

This game you simply count the dots on one side of the egg and find the digit on the other side. This makes it not only a math game but a fine motor game as well when they have to put both sides together.

Egg matching games!
This one happens to be for sale in my etsy shop! www.catchastarcrafts.etsy.com

Egg yolk felt matching game!
I made two sets of this game since it has been such a hit with the class. The first set, is a game for two students to use and play together to find the matches. The second set is much smaller and is now in our sensory table along with some easter grass and sequin confetti. It can be played alone or with a friend. Students simply match the color of the yolk to the plastic egg and put them together.
 : )
We went on an egg hunt in the playground! When it was over we brought our eggs into the classroom to open them up. Inside we found jelly beans!!!
We then sorted the jelly beans by color and graphed the results!
Thank you to Simply Kinder for the free print outs!

We made our own rice crispy bird nests!
Lots of sticky fun! haha

Yummy!
You are all egg-ceptional!!!
Thanks for reading! : )
